Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening for Volunteer
Purposes
Applicants may attend at the London Police Service Headquarters, Monday to
Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.. – closed on holidays. The
fee for this Police Records Check and
Vulnerable Position Screening
for volunteer purposes is $10.00, which is payable at the time of submitting the
application. Fees are payable by cash, debit, company/agency cheque, Visa,
MasterCard, or American Express. Applicants must have a letter from the
Volunteer Agency involved, verifying the position is for volunteer purposes.
Photo identification is required to be produced. Applicants must be a resident
of London and shall provide proof of London residency. Processing time will be
up to 7 business days, but may take longer due to volume.
A Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening is available to persons
that will be volunteering in positions of trust, involving the vulnerable
sector. The vulnerable sector includes, but is not limited to, children (persons under 18
years of age), the physically disabled, the intellectually disabled, and the
elderly.
A comprehensive police records check is performed, which includes a query of the
London Police Service’s local criminal records, a search of the London Police
Service’s local indices, which includes any police involvement the applicant has
had with the London Police Service, and, where the applicant has lived outside
of London in the past 5 years, inquiries will be made with that police agency(s)
having jurisdiction during that period. A query of the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police National Repository for Criminal Records in Canada shall also be
performed, including a query of the pardon files maintained by the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police, to determine if the applicant has been convicted of,
and been granted a pardon for any of the sexual offences listed in the schedule
to the Criminal Records Act. This Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position
Screening is based on photo identification only, and, therefore, is not
confirmed by fingerprints. A copy of the completed check, indicating the results
of the Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening, shall include the
Corporate Seal of the London Police Service as proof of authenticity.

Check and Vulnerable Position Screening released back to the Volunteer Agency,

Appeals
When a Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening results in
"Does have information on file that may be relevant to the position
noted on this form ", the applicant may request an appeal of this
determination. The request for appeal shall be in writing and shall be addressed
as follows:

The request for an appeal should include a request in writing that outlines
the position of the applicant and any supporting documentation in relation to
the applicant's position.
There is an appeal fee of $22.60 (HST included). Please make your cheque or
money order payable to the "London Police Service". You have 60 days from the
date your Police Records Check and Vulnerable Position Screening was completed
to make this appeal.
No oral representations or hearings will take place. The appeal will be
reviewed by the Senior Director, Support Services Division and the Director,
Information and Technology, and a final decision will be made by that Committee.
The Senior Director will notify the requestor of the results of the appeal.
Should you wish to appeal the results of your police records check and
vulnerable position screening, a fee of $22.60 (HST included) applies.
